K-model_restore repairs

If you haven't followed the maintenance procedures, or if you are just unlucky, you will need to check out the repair procedure. This is one category, the other categories are at the bottom of this page.

A restoration is just a big thorough repair. This is what I have been doing to a first-year K-model, the flathead version of the Iron Sportster.

I wanted the first-year K-model since that is where the Sportster started. It will help in my bill-of-materials section, as well understanding how the Sportster came to be.

I started with an engine for 3000 dollars and then a chassis for $4000 more. That is the just the beginning. Its all the small things that really add up. And then you get to fix it all.
I expect this restoration to take many years, perhaps even a decade. I don't intend a concours show bike, but rather, something that runs and teaches me the ethic of the Sportster engineers.
