louiedogrenda's 1978 retro chopper
This 1978 ironhead Sportster was built over the 2010/2011 winter. This bike isn't for the novice rider. It's a chopper after all.
It was professionally hardtailed by Dave Huntress at tanksbytigman.com. The frame has a 44 degree rake. The frame is rattlecanned black along with the rear fender. I put on a new Paughco narrow 12-inch-over springer front end. It has vintage 1970's 6-bend bars on new dogbone risers. I installed a new horseshoe chrome oil tank from Paughco. New chrome bars and exhaust will be added this week. This is a kick-only XLCH model, with very minimal wiring - headlight, stoplight, ignition, coil, and charging system. I have not yet installed the brand new drag pipes I just ordered today. It has a crazy 1960's gas tank with dings and blemishes and all the retro goodness of a 30-40 year old paint job.
It uses a new 21-inch paughco mini-drum front rim. I have the brake setup, I just never installed it. The bike uses the stock 16-inch rear drum. It uses a basic forward-control setup. It sports a bad-ass 1970's king and queen seat. You don't see too many brown ones like this. I have an additional black king and queen seat that hugs the fender a little better but its a lot bigger. THe bike fires up with 2-3 kicks and the compression will knock you off the bike. To start it, leave the bike off and no gas give it 1-2 prime kicks, then turn it on, 2 quick blips of the throttle and 2 kicks.
